Celestia was in her study wondering what to do with her faithful student Twilight Sparkle. She was getting to the point were she had nothing left to teach the young unicorn, and in her mind Twilight was more than ready for a final assignment to show her worth and skill to Equestria. But how would the princess test her apprentice? Magic was out of the question, since Twilight was the embodiment of magic itself. Celestia was still thinking, when the sound of fighting outside caught her attention. She immediately rushed outside, to see what was happening.

Two guards came to the princess holding a crying filly with their magic. "We found this intruder in the kitchen trying to steal food, what should we do with her?" One of the guards asked. Celestia looked over the young filly for a moment, the filly looked like she hadn't eaten nor bathed in weeks. Celestia could understand the child trying to steal food. The sun princess looked at her guards.

"Go and tell the chef to prepare a soup and bring it to my room. I'll take the child and decide what to do with her after she gets fed." the princess commanded. The two guards nodded and relinquished the child to the princess and went to the kitchen to wake the chef.

Celestia walked into her room with the child. As the filly looked up at Celestia, her eyes filled with fear and awe at the sight of the princess of the sun. Celestia wrapped the girl in a blanket and looked at her. "It's okay, you're safe now little one, could you tell me your name?" the princess' voice was gentle and soothing; she didn't want to scare the child even more.

The filly was silent for a few seconds but then she finally answered. "I... I'm Stardust."

Celestia smiled. "Stardust is a beautiful name." She said, making the filly perk up a bit. After a few more questions and answers the soup finally arrived and Celestia noticed the chef had added in crackers and a sandwich. he must have been informed of the filly's condition by the guards, Celestia thought as she nodded to Stardust that she could eat as much as she wanted. As the filly dug into her food, Celestia thought about what she should do with the child. I can't punish her for wanting to eat, and I can't keep her here, so what should I... Celestia's thoughts trailed off and she smiled. She pulled out a quill and scroll and began to write to her student Twilight Sparkle she had her assignment. Stardust had finished eating and had fallen asleep by the time Celestia sent the letter away, and the sun princess was about to fall asleep. She looked one more time at Stardust and smiled Tomorrow will be a busy day for you, my little pony. Celestia chuckled in her mind as she drifted to sleep.

Twilight Sparkle was slightly annoyed that night, one reason was because she couldn't figure out how the spell that allowed you to create metal out of thin air worked, and the other was because Spike had woken up and thrown a scroll at her head while grumbling in anger at Celestia for sending a letter so late at night.

Twilight opened the letter and began to read it to herself.

My dearest, most faithful student, Twilight,

It has come to my attention that their is nothing left to teach you about magic or friendship, and that you have become a much wiser pony than I ever could have hoped. It is now time for me to give you the final assignment. Don't worry it doesn't include you leaving Ponyville. Earlier tonight a little filly named Stardust was caught sneaking into the castle and trying to steal food from the royal kitchen. She is in my room sleeping at the moment after a good meal, and requires a guardian. I can not fill the role because of my duties, and Luna is to busy studying to actually do anything. I am sending Stardust to Ponyville to be put under your care. You are to take the role as mentor and parent to this child, and I expect full reports on her well-being every so often. She is young and needs the power of friendship more than ever. I know it is sudden, but I have full faith that you will be able to take this young unicorn under your wing and allow her to shine. She will arrive by chariot in the morning.

The sun shines forever,
Princess Celestia.
P.S. Tell Spike I'm sorry for the late letter
P.P.S. Also, tell Pinkie Pie not to throw Stardust a party. The child is practically afraid of her own shadow.

Twilight was in shock. Celestia was sending her an Apprentice! This was her test, To train her own apprentice? Twilight would normally have thrown a fit and complained, but since it was getting late and morning was getting closer, Twilight decided the complaints would have to wait. She headed up to bed after cleaning up, and had nightmares about the days to come.

The next morning Twilight called the Mane 6 to the library with the news. Right when she finished telling the gang about the child that would become her apprentice Pinkie started to draw up party plans

"ok we'll need baloon and food and mmmph" Pinkie was cut off with Rainbow Dash puting a hoof in her mouth

"Didn't you here Twilight? Princess Celestia said not to throw party because the girl is afraid of her own shadow!" Rainbow Dash exclaimed.

Pinkie Pie frowned "But wouldn't a party make her less afraid?" she asked in hopes of her friends giving up and letting her throw a party.

"Ah know you want to throw a party for this youngin Pinkie but we need to let her set in and get comfortable with the folks of Ponyville before we can throw her a party. maybe you can throw her a party in a few days" Apple Jack suggested with a smile.

Pinkie Pie seemed to cheer up at her friends suggestion "Oki Doki Loki!" she jumped up and down with a smile

Spike ran into the room from outside with a smile "Shes here!" he shouted with a smile he was more excited about Stardust than anyone  in the building he was going to have a little sister.

All of them rushed outside as the carriage landed their stood Princess Celestia with a little filly cowering under her Celestia looked at Twilight Sparkle and smiled.

"Hello my faithful student" Celestia said with a smile as she looked down at the child hiding behind her  "Come on out Stardust we are here" she spoke in a soothing voice.

Stardust was unsure if should come out but she trusted Celestia and came out from behind the sun princess she looked around at the place that she was going to be living it was as beautiful as Celestia's story had said.

Celestia allowed Stardust to leave the carriage before turning back to Twilight Sparkle "I would stay and chat Twilight but I have to go to a meeting with the Ambassador  of the Dragon kingdom today" She then looked to Stardust and keeled down to be at eye level with the little unicorn. "Thats Twilight Sparkle the unicorn i told you about your in good hooves little one she will keep you safe and raise you like I said" she said with a smile

Stardust hugged Celestia and whispered a thank you to the princess. Twilight had never seen any pony become so close to the sun princess in such a short time. what Celestia and Stardust had wasn't a teacher/student relationship like the one Twilight had with the princess it was more like a friend saying goodbye to a friend.

Celestia waved a goodbye to the town of Ponyville and took off towards Canterlot.

Twilight looked at Stardust with a smile "Hello Stardust your going to be living with me from now on this is Spike he's my assistant."

Stardust looked at the baby dragon with a sense of wonder she had never seen a dragon before and she ran over and hugged him "your so cute!" she shouted as Spike just blushed.

Apple Jack laughed at the scene as it played out which startled Stardust as she let go of spike and hid behind Twilight.

Apple Jack frowned "Oh I'm sorry Stardust were are my manners I'm Apple Jack" she said with a smile but Stardust just looked at her in slight fear. Apple Jack sighed " Yer just like a certain pony Ah I know. Ah run Sweet apple acres if you want an apple just come by sometime with Twilight because ask anypony here we have the best apples in Equestria." she bragged with a smile.

Stardust ears perked up at this "Really?" she asked with a smile.

Apple Jack chuckled "Really" which made the filly smile even more.

Stardust was introduced to the rest of the gang and she liked all of them well except Rainbow Dash who was incredibly loud with her Introduction which ended up making stardust look almost as scared as Fluttershy when the Mane 6 had to get that dragon to leave. After the Introductions Twilight left her friends in order to get Stardust settled in to her new home.

Twilight led Stardust into the Library and gave her the grand tour. Unlike everyone else who came to the library who normally looked really bored or annoyed, Stardust looked in wonder she was asking questions and listening to everything Twilight said. Twilight already knew that Stardust would make a great apprentice and couldn't wait to teach her but she needed to know more about the girl before she could teach her so she looked at her new apprentice with a smile.

"Thats the tour you were great Stardust unlike a lot of other ponies who come by and ignore what I say" She praised the filly with a great smile. "how about we go get some lunch and then we can decide what you'll be learning and what you would like to do" Twilight offered

Stardust smiled at the idea of getting lunch but had to ask Twilight "If your teaching me then why do I get to decide what I learn? Isn't that your job as a Teacher?" she asked

Twilight chuckled "Maybe i should have clarified,I'm going to test you on somethings and ask you questions so I can decide what your going to learn, and once we figure that out you can decide on were you want to start in your learning." she explained

Stardust nodded at her "oh OK" she said with a shy smile at her new teacher

Twilight walked toward the door and looked to Stardust "Lets go eat, on the way I can show you around Ponyville"

Stardust smile widened and she raised towards the door to see the town she would live in.
